Judith Brown is a stilista whose work feels quietly exquisite – handmade bridal accessories that are elegant, feminine and designed with extraordinary attention to detail.

I first started making jewellery a causa di 2004, using wire and some of the stitching techniques I’d learnt acceso my degree a causa di embroidery. This soon led to creating wedding accessories alongside the jewellery that I sell through galleries.

I have always loved beautiful sumptuous fabrics and have a nostalgic love for the fashions, jewellery and headdresses of the past which means that my pieces are very feminine, intricate and delicate and perfectly suited to special occasions.

a personal level I love being able to spend lots of time acceso bringing an intricate together, so it’s the creative side that I love, pushing myself to try new ideas and techniques.

I’ve been working with wire for over twenty years and that means that I have developed my own unique style and don’t tend to follow particular trends, my aim is to create something exquisite that makes a bride feel beautiful and that will be treasured.

My designs are elegant, delicate and detailed yet understated, with elements inspired by wildflowers and leaves. I love to incorporate colour into my designs and have a vast collection of beautiful glass beads that I work with. I don’t use any ready made leaves ora embellishments a causa di my accessories, I create all leaves and beaded elements by hand a causa di the premura.

I start with reels of wires and beads and create the embellishments myself that I want to adorn my pieces with.

I have a “library” of techniques a causa di my head that I can call acceso, ranging from stitching with wire, to looping, twisting, wrapping and beading and these are the starting point for designs.

I will sketch out a very rough opinione of how I’d like elements to quanto together, and then I will start making, and adapt my ideas – and develop new techniques if needed, as I go. For my Botanica Collection, many of the crowns, hair pins and combs, hair vines and jewellery, have been influenced by the figura of wild flowers a causa di the summer sky, ora the waving of grasses a causa di the breeze.

My current inspiration comes from nature, but with the last twenty years of making behind me, I’ve been inspired by fashions and jewellery from the past and this does still have an influence acceso my pieces today.

I love the elegance and detailed finale of Edwardian and Victorian jewellery and dress and the sumptuous fabrics and embroidery of the twenties and thirties too.

I was asked to rework a treasured heirloom headdress for a bride. I was trusted to take apart the original piece that had been worn a causa di the 60s by the bride’s grandmother, and then also a causa di the 80s by her Mum, to create something new.

That first snip of the pliers taking it apart was slightly terrifying, as until you take a piece apart you don’t know exactly how it’s been made, nor what exactly you will have to work with once dismantled. What an honour to be entrusted with this task!
